NYT piece on the economics of writing

Interesting piece from a few months ago from the NYT regarding the difficulties of getting paid for one’s literary labor in the 21st century.  If the turn of the 19thC saw the rise of “professional writers,” this piece would seem to narrate their decline amid expectations of free content on the part of consumers and the profusion of amateur “user-generated content.”  Especially interesting to read in light of Eden’s struggles to get paid for his work in the novel.
