Questions on Pekar

  • What kinds of things does the subject know about his/her work?  What kinds of education/experience have fed into this knowledge?  Are there gaps in this knowledge about his/her place in the order of things?

  • How does the subject address us readers?  What assumptions does s/he make about who we are and what we know about their work?

  • How do the graphics interact with the underlying oral narrative?  Why might Pekar and his team of artists have chosen this particular style of graphics/layout?  What are some ways in which visual form conveys information in ways that go beyond the subject’s words?

  • Are there any particular themes or moments that link up with a) other narratives in this collection or b) other texts we’ve read thus far?
